This is obviously much more obscure than I realised - nary a nibble...
It's not "Rome"

Maybe this will help - clue No. 5:

Soren Larson, a star of the series, is thriving - and working, but in warmer climes than those in which the stardom came.

OK, let's see.

After a closer look at all the clues, I start to think at Spartacus.

Hmmm, I know a very good show, aired in 1970-th, with a very nice musical main theme, Adagio Of Spartacus And Phrygia by Aram Khachaturyan, a show who was four time nominated to Bafta Awards in 1972, 1973 and 1974, for Best Design, Best Actress and Best Drama Series.

I mean "The Onedin Line".

Enjoy youself :D

That's right! The Onedin Line.
Well done! I'm so pleased that someone got it!

Regarded as one of the best drama series ever. BBC at its best!

Some of the filming of earlier scenes is a bit faded (yes - 35mm film stock!) but I cannot recommend it enough - watch it if you can.

Just to tidy things up, and for those unfortunate enough not to have seen the series...

The Onedin Line ran from 1971 to 1980.
It is set in Liverpool, in the mid-19th century, and deals with the rise of a shipping line, the Onedin Line, and its owner James Onedin.
Around this central theme are the lives of his family, friends and rivals, giving insight into the lifestyle and customs of the time.
The series also illustrates the harshness of a life at sea, and changes in commerce and shipping, such as from wooden to steel ships, and from sailing ships to steam ships, shows the role that shipping played in commerce and international affairs.

The clues:

1. A punny mythological sea creature crossed the line to make a fortune.
(The name "Onedin" is a play on "Ondine", a mythical sea creature.)

2. Spartacus is prominent throughout...
(The theme music, which became very popular, is from the ballet, "Spartacus", by Khachaturian, specifically, the Adagio, "Spartacus And Phrygia").

3. Often wet and windy (becoming steamy), with a lot of interwoven social and political history, it's the story of an old salt...
(Says it all, really.)

4. A cynical marriage was planned for advantage, but became a strong business partnership - and a lifelong love.
(James Onedin, a penniless sea captain with ambition, marries Anne Webster as a means of becoming the owner of the topsail schooner "Charlotte Rhodes" on which he founds his business. However, not only does Anne become a strong and supportive business partner, but a deep and lifelong love develops between them.)

5. Soren Larson, a star of the series, is thriving - and working, but in warmer climes than those in which the stardom came.
(The 'part' of the schooner, "Charlotte Rhodes", is 'played' by the topsail schooner "Soren Larson", which is still operating out of Auckland, New Zealand; she undertakes adventure sail training for people of all ages, and adventure voyages through the islands of the South Pacific.)

Well done Dr. Jackson - your turn to puzzle us.

Let's go to "unpleasant" things.

We talking about a TV series, and specifically, about the cast.

Question off topic: at what number will we stop giving clues? It`s good to know, don't you think?

Indeed, what might happen if that would rise up in revolution?
