Eric Dane est mort le 19 février de la maladie de Charcot (dont il avait été diagnostiqué en 2024). Il avait 53 ans et c'était le 20ᵉ anniversaire de sa première apparition dans Grey's Anatomy dans le rôle du docteur Glamour (Mc Steamy en vo), Mark Sloan. Depuis, on l'a vu notamment dans The Last Ship et Euphoria. Depuis son diagnostic, il a beaucoup aidé la fondation I Am ALS, sachant qu'un remède n'arriverait pas à temps pour lui. Il a dit au Washington Post “Not to be overly morbid, but you know, if I’m going out, I’m gonna go out helping somebody.” (Pas pour être super morbide, mais si je pars, je vais partir en aidant quelqu'un).
