Looking for English subs for Isabel Series 2. I have captured the SMI subs from a web broadcast but not readable. Anyone have English SRT or a script/method of converting SMI to SRT?

Which version of SE are you using?

SE does support SAMI and modern SAMI

 

Does your sub looks anything like the following example:?

The version I have installed is 3.3.10 but when you said try the portable I got the latest 3.3.12. I see SAMI and SAMI modern as output formats but if you use - File - Open and select Subtitles Files SMI is not one of the options. If you opt for All Files and select the SMI it says unknown subtitle type. My SMI file doesn't have any legible text it is the raw SMI, I have cut and pasted the first few lines below. Someone else I am working with has text but it is untimed in large blocks. If it helps I can get some example lines from what he has.

Thanks for all answers.

 

It's funny, the phrase 'Whole different animal' is exactly what I used earlier in the day when trying to explain to someone that it wasn't the same as SRT files.

 

 

Someone tried Tubedigger to rip from HULU and it did give output in SRT but with large blocks of text under one timing line. Looks as if the decryption is not quite right. Hence my request. I have found a Ruby script which might work but I know nothing about Ruby, (and to be honest very little about scripts), but would invest the time if I knew it worked.

As it happens I got a workaround. However I am very interested in what you did to get the above result. Can you explain a bit more,(idiot terms is what I mean). How and where did you remove the encryption tag? Was it just a find and replace and on what exact text? Did you then just open the file in SE to get the SRT result? What you have done looks great I just want to be able to do the same. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out.

Thanks a lot. I have been playing around for the last couple of hours to try and avoid asking any more idiotic questions but I still can't get the results you do. I'm afraid I have to ask you for a step by step guide.

 

You said in step 1 'created a text file'...   Using what editor and in what format/encoding did you save it? 

In step 3 do you take out the <Sync> commands? Do you leave in the very first line starting SAMI BODY ?

In step 4 what encoding did you use?

I played the video and typed the translated dialogues, just to check the timestamp's accuracy.

I don't know what is happening that you cannot replicate...
I'm not doing anything unusual nor using any tool other than notepad, and its standard ANSI code.

Merely selected your example, andywiz, and pasted it into a blank text file I named "NTF0.smi":

Then deleted all strings containing the characters Encrypted="true", that is used the Ctrl-R shortcut and REPLACED the strings with nothing... literally nothing.

Saved it, opened with SE, saved it as "NTF1.srt"

I will say I had misunderstood and thought you were getting decrypted text, but the first problem I encounter is not getting the same results as you illustrate above even using the same method. When I open the saved SMI in SE the timings have all gone to hell, and any line of code that starts with numeric characters has lost them. If the pics below show properly you will see that the first code line starting 994fd has lost the three numbers in SE. The same applies to all lines starting with a numeric. That's what I spent hours trying to solve yesterday, just trying to get to the neat timed lines you had.

K.. I just checked, and indeed 3.3.10 and above are rendering the exact same result that you reported.

3.3.9 and below are doing the trick.

Also works with Subtitle Workshop.

 

But, as I suspected, this is merely academic, since your interest is in the decrypting part of the equation.
