tyler
Can anyone make subtitles for web-dl releases of 24 season 5-8? I found the previous seasons but none after that, i tried using dvd versions but they are out of sync.
Alice
Hi, tyler. If memory serves, all you have to do is change the frame rate, from 25 fps (DVD standard) to 23.976 fps Virtually all subtitling sofware have an option that does that. Cheers. tyler
well they are set at 23.976 and its out of sync by like 10+ seconds, sometimes like 30 seconds or more in later parts
Alice
You may have to sync the first lines, and all lines that occur at the original commercial breaks when the series was aired. Here is a link that can be helpful: The chickens are revolting!
tyler
that seems like it would take awhile :s plus i haven't seen it so that would kind of spoil the series for me.
Alice
Well... it's really not. And you are the one who has the 96 episodes and would like to watch the web-dl format for whatever reason.. ===== Added on edit: Just out of curiosity, I tried 5x01 with the DVDRip subs... As I said, they are sync to 25 fps, tyler. I don't know where or what gave you the idea they were at 23.976 After the frame rate change, all I did was adjust the first line by -0.750 ms, and then about -500 to -1000 ms each commercial break. Took me 5 minutes.. 30 seconds actually, if I watch the episode with the first sync only and then manually adjust each pause. So... The chickens are revolting! tyler
well the dvd subtitles im using are already at 23.976 fps. Someone did the first 7 episodes for season 5
http://subscene.com/subtitles/24-fifth-season/english/917508">http://subscene.com/subtitles/24-fifth-season/english/917508 The fps are the same and thats way more than a few hundred ms off.
Alice
Well.. if what you are saying is true, it is an obvious mislabelling. They aren't sync to 23.976. They may be flagged as 23.976, but they aren't. 25 FPS is the DVD standard. But I'm not going to argue with you. I just said I have done it myself: Took the original DVDRip subs and changed their frame rates. They were off by .750 ms at the first line, and by no more than 2 seconds at the end. All you have to do afterwards is sync the very first line, and on the fly if you like the very first one after each commercial break For whatever reason you are dismissing that. I gave you all advise I could here You may wish and take your request to SubScene, if you believe that is a better venue. Up to you. The chickens are revolting! tyler
it doesnt have anything to do with labling lol.. i checked it in aegisub. link to the subs you are using.
Alice
Well... then you'll have to apply Occam's razor principle. I just matched the sub at subscene with the one I did for 5x01 After the .750 ms adjusting, they are an exact match And they are in sync with the web-dl video. Either you are having computer problems, or your videos are screwed up. Find other version or buy another computer, ...or just for the hell of it, try and sync one episode and see what happens. Links? What links? I used the subs available at Subscene and at addic7ed for my test. Sorry, there's nothing more I can do to help you. Cheers. ==== Edit This is just an afterthought... If you have already tried to sync an episode.. is there a chance that you are doing something wrong? The chickens are revolting!
tyler
the links to the subs you're using. i guess we're just using different video sources or something, because the times you are saying you have are wildy different from the ones i have. Alice
What can I say? I don't see anywhere any other having problems with these subtitles. The only web-dl release I'm aware of is DRAWER, and the subs work just fine, after the tweaks I have mentioned. Since you seem to be the only one experiencing issues, you may want to rethink the benefits of having whatever release you have. The chickens are revolting! tyler
DRAWER? Never heard of that group. I'm using 24 Season 5 720p WEB-DL H264-HDB

tyler
they are 2 different releases that could have different timing issues. what point am i missing?
Alice
They do not have different timing issues.. that is the point you are missing. ALL web-dls have the exact same time signature. No matter which version, unless you are using a Chinese one. I have told you time and again: When you change the frame rate of the subs for the DVDRip version from 25 to 23.976, then sync the very first line and all first lines after the commercial breaks, you have a sub that will work with your WEB-DL How do I know that? Because I did it For 5x01, 5x04, 5,06, 5x08, just to be absolutely sure. And I did it with YOUR releases. So, you can do it yourself, or hope someone is willing to download 100 Gb worth of videos and spend a day producing subs for your viewing pleasure. I taught you how to fish. Up to you if you want to feed or starve. The chickens are revolting!

Alice
You are either not understanding, or pulling my leg. Good luck with your quest. It looks that someone at subscene and addic7ed is uploading some more subs. At this rate, you may be able to watch all eight seasons by Christmas. Have a good life.
