You're welcome :)

He, I just often (mis-)use the "!" in greetings!

Yes, I've created this program from scratch - looked like this in the beginning (started on it in 2001): http://cdn3.afterdawn.fi/screenshots/normal/2909.jpg

The feature set has been increased over time...

>it's very good and useful and i suggest it to everyone for subtitles.

Thx :)

SE 3.3.11 is now available here: http://code.google.com/p/subtitleedit/downloads/list

Change log - http://www.nikse.dk/

Audio waveform was not in sync for all videos in 3.3.10 (for most, but not for all).

The spectrogram should also always be in sync (earlier had some problems with sync - except in the beginning of a file).

Spectrogram can make it easier to see speaking if there's a lot background noise/music.

You must enable "Generate spectrogram" in Options -> Settings to get a spectrogram. Spectrogram has classic mode or one-color-gradient mode:

One color gradient mode:

Thanks for all your great updates.

I have a...bug (?). When I set to remove single dialogue dashes, the lines that start with a word that contains a dash gets that dash removed. Sounds complicated, so here are some examples.

- Mm-hmm. --> Mmhmm.

- I-I never thought of that. --> II never thought of that.

- Uh-huh. --> Uhhuh.

So I have to manually uncheck these lines so that they don't get messed up.

Thanks for this amazing software. No idea how I was able to do subs before :D

Hi doc,

Yes, what galaxy have you been in? ;)

SE has been updated some times while you were away with stuff like "in sync spectrogram" finally + many new custom shortcuts + import of dvb subs from .ts files + the usual minor improvements and fixes :)

(if a video contains a lot of background noise then the spectrogram often is better than the waveform)

And of course I'm working on next update: http://code.google.com/p/subtitleedit/source/browse/trunk/src/Changelog.txt

(If you work a lot in the waveform with a mouse, then some nice fixes will be out in next version)

Somewhere near, but the Gate was unplugged. :)
I read everything about all your updates and I'm asking myself, when you have time for your life? :)

Thanks a lot for this amazing SE !

Hi doc,

Yes, I'm been way too busy incoorparation secret goa'uld tec into SE :)

I've grouped the settings in the upcomming 3.3.13 more logical:

SE_Settings.png

Just one question... should default for "Min. gap between subtitles in ms" be 0... or something like 24/25?

You can also try it out here: http://www.nikse.dk/SubtitleEdit.zip (portable version, beta of 3.3.13)

Hi Boris,

Thx for the feedback.

Yeah, I will go with a gap of 24 per default.

UTF-8 will stay as default encoding though. In my opinion only UFT-8 or UTF-16 (normal Unicode) should be used! Unicode supports 100.000 chars while ansi supports 256 chars, but 256 chars depending on the users default code page - also read this: http://coding.smashingmagazine.com/2012/06/06/all-about-unicode-utf8-character-sets/

However, SE can still help with that sad devotion to that ancient Jedi ansi religion ;)

SE has pretty good ansi detection and you can always use File -> Open subtitle with manual chosen encoding...

And if you really really want to you can even set 1252 as default encoding by editing the Settings.xml file and set <DefaultEncoding> to "1252"... in this version: http://www.nikse.dk/SubtitleEdit.zip (portable version, beta of 3.3.13)

Well, the UI is of course easier to use ;)

Also, SE 3.3.13 final is now out :)

Highlights:

  • New: New setting "Gap between subtitles"
  • New: Compare window now has an option to "ignore line breaks" + a "text change percent" - thx Krystian
  • Improved: Better grouping of general settings in options
  • Fixed: Waveform/spectrogram: Moving start/end with ALT down now always works - thx Leon
  • Fixed: Waveform/spectrogram: Move border left/right now also always works even when it's near next/prev border

The new "minimum gap between subtitles" can be changed under options. It also works in the waveform, where you cannot drag subtitles closer to each other than the "minimum gap".

When you drag/move the start/end of a subtitle in the waveform, SE waits to determine which subtitle to move until you actually start moving it - earlier this could be somewhat annoying.

Brilliant, as always, Nikse. Thanks a million.

Have you considered adding the extraction of subtitles from m4v files?

Just curious is all.

I've been working around that missing feature by converting the m4v (or mp4) files to mkv while conserving the soft-coded subs using HandBrake. I'm on a Mac and SubEdit works quite well in XP via VMware Fusion 5. My latest result with this method in:  http://www.addic7ed.com/movie/84332

Thanks a lot Nikse for this outstanding application.

Hi Alice, you can try File -> Open... - and choose an mp4/m4v file. SE can open "some" subtitles in mp4/m4v files.

Also, SE 3.3.14 is out: https://github.com/SubtitleEdit/subtitleedit/releases

Mainly fixes two bugs introduced in SE 3.3.13 - a crash in spell check + problems moving a subtitle border/edge in the waveform.
